Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuits

These Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuits have been on the “must bake” list for a long time. With football season upon us, I figured it was the perfect time to bring this recipe to life. I modified our Simple & Easy Breakfast Biscuit recipe with some spicy cayenne pepper, freshly grated Cheddar cheese, freshly grated Monterey Jack cheese, and minced jalapeño peppers. These were easy to make and so delicious! Who doesn’t want a freshly baked flaky biscuit right now?!

Be warned… I made these on Sunday and the entire house smelled amazing. It was hard to resist eating more than one! While we were snacking, I realized that these biscuits would pair perfectly with a simmering pot of chili, cheesy southern grits, or creamy tomato soup! I think these will become a regular staple in our household this Fall.

Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuits

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose baking flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • cup butter unsalted, cut into thin slices
  • 1 jalapeño minced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • ½ cup Monterey Jack cheese shredded
  • 1 cup oat milk, regular milk, or buttermilk


  • Preheat oven to 425°F.
  • Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cayenne pepper in a large bowl.
  • Add butter to the flour mixture. Mix until dough resembles coarse meal.
  • Add in the jalapeño and cheeses.
  • Gradually stir in milk, until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Turn dough out onto a floured baking mat. Knead 15-20 times. Roll dough out so that it is about 1-inch thick (the thicker the dough, the higher the rise on the biscuits).
  • Use a cutter or floured glass to cut out biscuits. Brush off the excess flour and place biscuits on an un-greased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 13-15 minutes, until edges begin to brown slightly.
  • Serve fresh your favorite chili or soup and enjoy!
